Desert Island Disc

If you were stranded on a deserted island and you could only listen to one CD over and over, what would it be?

Mine without a doubt would be Alison Krauss and Robert Plant's Raising Sand, for many reasons which I would love to go into detail, but I'll withhold that for the comments section.

How about you? You've been tagged.

[edited 11:30am 6/12/08] WAIT!!! I CHANGED MY MIND!!!

I want Elbow's The Seldom Seen Kid as my Desert Island Disc. Utterly brilliant disc, I'm so glad to have been introduced to them, I need to go check out their back catalogue as well. I just listened to it twice the whole way through, and I could do with another listen to be completely honest.

"Be As You Are (Songs From an Old Blue Chair}" by Kenny Chesney.

Why? Appropriate theme music for a desert island & it's a CD I listen to often when I want to relax. Something about the lyrics of those songs slows me down & reminds me to just chill out.

Ok, now that I have a moment to embellish on my choice...

This record is very relaxing, yet haunting and thought provoking. I'm not really a country fan per se, I consider myself an Americana fan, which some people might read as code for a "closet country fan", although it implies an alt-country almost bluesy-rock tilt. Alison Krauss technically isn't country but bluegrass, but unfortunately gets lumped in with those types. What people who aren't in the know fail to see is that there are different types of country. Kenny Chesney for example is more of the pop/new country end of the spectrum, which I'm not so fond of but that's just me.
Another trend present here that's a common theme to my musical taste is the blend of one male voice and a female voice

I tend to like songs more than artists or genres or CDs. I will lisyen to anything from Jim Brickman to Garth Brooks to Neil Diamond to Staind. (Just no techno dance electronica rap, none of which appeal to me soundwise.) I have to be careful with Alison Kraus -- I like some of her music but in other songs she sounds whiny to me. I don't like all Chesney either, which is kind of funny since so much of his music sounds the same. =P What I like about that particular CD is that it's lighter on the pop-country & has more of a tropical island flavor instead.

Redbeard, hadn't seen you around the past few days, so it's good to see a new post.

How sad is it I have no choice on the CD? I NEVER listen to music, which I know makes me quite odd.

Maybe GnR?

It's hard to believe but there are those out there that are not "music lovers" who are more than content listening to whatever happens to be on the radio, music or talk.

My grandfather was also one of these types and I never understood it, I guess music was always a big part of my life and always held it as one of the more important aspects that shapes one's persona.

But I've been around, in case you haven't noticed Ted, I'm invisible. And sometimes a mime.

Invisiblity!

Trust me Ted, you don't want that. No one seems to know you're there when you're invisible. Sure it has its advantages sometimes but most of the time it sucks and is really lonely.

Can I have a 12 disc compilation of old blues?

I get bored easily and would be trading with others when they slept. I know I am on island alone, but I think I see some islands over there, I will do night raids and I will always get to hear everyone's favorites.

I've got that Alison Krauss and Robert Plant album at home but haven't had the chance to listen to it yet...I'll have to dig it out and put it on the MP4 player so I can listen to it on the way to work!
