Body Parts

Video courtesy of Jess, Mrs. Redbeard.

Also today Sierra graduated to a big girl bed. For the past week she's been screaming whenever we put her in her crib for a nap or down for bed. She would scream for almost an hour in come cases, and she would scream when she woke up, increasingly earlier and earlier each morning. For the past 2 mornings it's been at 4:30-4:45am.

At first we thought it might be the heat. We put the fan in her room, no change.

Then we thought that the light in the room coming through her southeast facing windows were keeping her up in the evenings and getting her up early in the mornings. We nailed blankets over her windows. This temporarily assuaged her crying for one night, then she was back to her old newish habits.

So this morning we took Jess' old single bed out of storage, knowing we were keeping it for Sierra when she is old enough. And now is the time. Taking down the crib was a lot easier than putting it together with no instructions (I had bought it secondhand from a co-worker). We put the bed together in no time although my wrists are quite sore from the ratcheting.

Sierra was absolutely giddy when we got her up in the bed. Now tonight will be the true test - what will happen when we put her down for the night unrestricted.

It's funny, when I show Sierra the video back to her from here, she points to everything her mom asks her and says daddy at the end. A little more hoarse now than on the video.

Why do I have the uncontrollable urge to sing "Head Shoulders Knees & Toes" now...?

Redbeard, I tried to comment earlier and blogger was pitching a fit.

Big night tonight for you and Jess. That first night in the big bed isn't easy. But all three of mine went throught the same thing Sierra did, and once we put them in the big bed?

It was all good.

Good luck, man.

Well, how'd she do?

she did very good and slept all by herself and got 9 hours of sleep
we did not need to lay with her to have her sleep

That's great Jess!

Happy Father's Day, Red!

Thanks Ishat, it was a good one and a vast improvement over the past few days. Nothing touches a father's heart like your babygirl falling asleep on your chest, as she did this morning for her nap.

YAAY! Jess is commenting! Will she have a blog, too and/or be a regular guest star??? Let us know her blog URL if she makes a blog, and I'll be sure to add it to my list of favorites.

re: Sierra...WONDERFUL news about the "big girl bed" and getting nine hours of sleep--more rest for the whole household!!!

Actually, Sierra was getting about 12 hours of sleep before throwing her crib fits, so the reduction to 9 is throwing off our routines, and probably so is the summertime longer hours of sun.

Hey if Jess wants to blog she can, although I don't see it happening. It took her this long (a year) to gather the courage to comment here, let alone anywhere else. Although, she does help with some ideas on this blog so maybe someday she might do a guest posting.

Hope you guys get back up to 12 hours of Sierra sleep. I remember lying in bed when I was a kid and being so aggravated because it was still sunny outside, yet I was supposed to go to sleep.

I think it can be kinda scary to comment on blogs...The pictures and videos are great! Bye, Jess!
