Happy

That's Sierra's new word. She said it over and over this morning. She was in a very happy mood this morning, and why shouldn't she be? She's been going outside everyday now playing with some older kids in the sandbox in our condo complex. The weather has been gorgeous - about 75 F / 22 C all week. This morning coming in to work, seemingly overnight, everything is springing up green. Buds and leaflets on trees, green grass, and flowers! Yes even flowers! And the 5 game win streak for the Red Sox!

There are lots to be happy about. Quite the turnaround from the dismal end to last week. As long as I can still carpool and afford gas, I'll stick with this company.

Happy is a good favorite word indeed!

Has Sierra gone through the "NO!" favorite word phase yet? Happy is much, much better.

Agreed wholeheartedly. She has said it, but not enough for it to be a "NO phase."

She's also saying hi and bye a lot more often, and she's getting used to going up and down stairs a lot better, with our help of course.

I'm so glad to hear that it's a better week and that stuff has settled down work-wise.

Have you trained Sierra to revile the Yankees? Or, much like parents in regard to their children's religion, are you going to allow her to go to different ballparks when she grows up and choose her own team?

I'm warning you, if she is like some (but certainly not all) girls, she might use aesthetic criteria to select her favorite teams early on ("Daddy! That Dodgers pitcher is CUTE!"). You need not worry about this now, but you might want to start planning for this possibility.

And, best choose your battles carefully. If she has a brief phase of liking the Mets, for example, remember that it could always be worse.

Sparkle! All things with time. I almost had her saying Papi last year but it didn't stick. I shall do my best in indoctrinating her into the storied baseball legends that are the Boston Red Sox, replete with "Yankees Suck" and pitchers' names chants.

However when she grows up she's free to choose any other club to support as long as it's not the Yankees. I know I'll have some strong opposition as she has grandparents who are Yankers fans, but it's all part of the fun. She's more than welcome to support a National League team so long as the Sox aren't competing directly against them in the world series.

Ex-cel-lent. Sounds like you've given this some thought already. I warn you: If you "forbid her from seeing the Yankees" she might rebel and run off and marry one or something. Tread carefully.

Does Sierra call you or a grandparent "poppy, papa, etc."? If so, saying "Papi" might confuse her...

I'm daddy. Jess's dad is Papa, but said like "Puh-puh". My dad is Poppa said like "PAH-puh" (emphasis on the first syllable whilst Papa is said more flatly and evenly). So if she isn't confused already, Papi shouldn't add too much confusion. He is of course the large father.

Y'know what is a really fun thing to teach your toddler to day? "Precious." In the same voice as Golem from "Lord of the Rings."

In other news...Dan-El's current favorite thing to say is "Too Mommy!" as in "I love you too, mommy!" And he always follows up with a big full body hug.

Lois, that would just be creepy! I can't even say the word precious without thinking of Gollum!

I can't wait for the day where she says "I love you daddy". Like Ted says, I'll be a blubbering mess. As if she doesn't already have me wrapped around her finger.

Stephen, Just treasure it now, man. 'Cause they get big QUICK.

I've only taught my kids to love the Sox; the hatred of the Yankees comes with puberty.

A friend of mine has a year and a half old and her newest phrase is: "Molly made a mess!"

Life in their house is a little interesting at the moment, to say the least.

::throws everything on the ground, sings, "Cake made a mess!"::

Holy crap cake, 18 months old and already using 4 word phrases? Sign this kid up for MENSA!

I'm lucky if I can get a 2-word phrase out of Sierra, most of the time I still get baby babbling gibberish.
